After waiting almost a year, Haverford School finally gets its revenge against Malvern Prep in one of Philadelphia lacrosse’s biggest rivalries.
Last year, Malvern went undefeated, which included three victories over the Ford. Two of those games were decided by just one goal, including the state title game which Malvern took 10-9.
This time around, the roles were reverse. It was Haverford entering the game ranked 1st in the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings and top in Pennsylvania, while Malvern sat in 41st and 4th in PA.
The Friars, who have struggled to live up to last year’s impressive run, could not keep up with the nation’s top-ranked team as Haverford dazzled from start to finish.
Led by two five-point performances from the Fords’ Forry Smith and Grant Ament, Haverford’s offense had no problem finding all the gaps in the Friars defense. Smith finished with three goals and two assist, while Ament’s lone goal was accompanied by four assists. Drew Supinski added on another three goals for Haverford.
By the final tally, Haverford dominated Malvern 15-5.
The Fords, now 14-0, seem unstoppable. That does not mean every game will come easily to Haverford, as its next opponent is Episcopal Academy, ranked 12th in the nation and second in PA. The two Pennsylvania heavyweights square off on April 24.
